The Old Ridge Route as seen from Swede’s Cut. The Big Creek Transmission lines - a long time partner of the road - running above. Mountains in the distance.
The Ridge Route is a historic highway that connects Los Angeles to Bakersfield. Credited for preventing California from splitting into 2 states. Created in 1915, this highway was a marvel of engineering, being one of the first in America to run over the tops of the ridges instead of through a canyon. The highway runs through what is now Angeles National Forest and criss crosses through what is now the modern day 5 Freeway on the section commonly referred to as "The Grapevine".
