Called a marvel of engineering, The Ridge Route got it’s name for it’s sweeping curves that run along the ridges of the mountains. It was one of the first highways constructed by the State of California and changed the course of California history. Reuniting the state and opening up a new and more direct trade route.
Opened to traffic in 1915, this highway was one of the first in America to run over the tops of the ridges instead of through a canyon. The highway runs through what is now Angeles National Forest and criss crosses under the modern day 5 Freeway.
